Deadpool and Wolverine trailer brings Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman into the MCU

The new Deadpool and Wolverine trailer is a wall-breaking extravaganza that promises splattery violence and off-colour humour aplenty. Directed by Shawn Levy, this is Ryan Reynolds' first Deadpool-themed excursion into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and we needn't have worried about the edges being sanded down.

The Merc with a Mouth is as gobby as ever as he pairs up with Hugh Jackman's grumpy Logan/Wolverine to battle Emma Corrin's shaven-headed villain (rumoured to be Cassandra Nova, sister of Charles Xavier). The details of Wolverine's presence in Deadpool's world are still a little fuzzy – Matthew McFadyen's presence as an agent of the Time Variance Authority likely has something to do with it.

We're expecting this to be a multiversal variation of Wolverine separate from Jackman's deceased incarnation in 2017's Logan. It's established in the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer that this particular Wolverine is fleeing from a tragedy in his past, and he's further distinguished by the yellow, comic-accurate costume that Jackman has never worn before on screen.

Those details will become clear in time. For now, let's anticipate what will surely be the MCU's naughtiest and nastiest movie to date. It's not every day that a Disney-distributed movie features Reynolds trading zingers with Leslie Uggams' Blind Al over the euphemisms for cocaine.
