Ken Loaches final film in a distinguished career spanning nearly 60 years is a typically insightful social drama penned by his long-term writing partner Paul Laverty. Set in the depressed environment of County Durham, which has never recovered from the 1980’s. Even the local pub in one small town, The Old Oak, a fixture for the community, is facing possible closure. The landlord, T J Bannatyne (Dave Turner) finds himself at the centre of controversy when Syrian refugees are placed in this downtrodden and distrustful community, and he strikes up a friendship with one of their number. A fascinating study of how right-wing politics and social media are used to create division within our fractured society. Ken Loach will introduce the film and take questions from the audience after the screening. Please note: There will be no ads or trailers, so please arrive promptly at the advertised start time.
