Ever since we first saw her in Lady Bird, we had a feeling that Beanie Feldstein would blossom into a big star. Our feelings were confirmed following her turn in last year's terrific coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, directed by Olivia Wilde.
And now, the talented young actor (she's also Jonah Hill's sibling) comes to UK shores in book adaptation How To Build A Girl. Adapted from Caitlin Moran's bestseller, the film is the inspiring story of a bored Wolverhampton teenager who reinvents herself as an outrageous rock journalist.
Feldstein plays said teen, Johanna, who both wants to get laid and desires an escape from her dreary 1990s Midlands existence. When her older, music-loving brother tells Johanna that a London mag is seeking a writer, she constructs an all-new personality in order to land the gig.
Meet Dolly Wilde, the flame-haired, uninhibited flipside to mousy Johanna, who promises to paint the capital red. Feldstein's characteristic exuberance is on full display in the trailer and she appears to have nailed the tricky Black Country accent.
Plus, there are some killer lines ("When exactly did you lose your mind?") from a starry supporting cast including Paddy Considine, Alfie Allen and Emma Thompson. Moran adapts her own acclaimed book and it's directed by Penny Dreadful's Coky Giedroyc. Check out the trailer below and prepare for wild partying.
