Babygirl (screening January 6th)
Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and rising British star Harris Dickinson steam up the screen in this provocative and playful drama. Kidman adds to her roster of bold and transgressive roles, playing a high-ranking corporate CEO who initiates a role-playing affair with Dickinson's intern.
What then unfolds blurs the boundaries between boss and pupil, submissive and dominant, all orchestrated under the watchful and witty eye of director Halina Reijn (the filmmaker responsible for 2022's acclaimed horror satire Bodies Bodies Bodies).
Kidman won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, delivering a performance that critics say ranks among her very best.
Here (screening January 8th)
You've heard the phrase, 'If these walls could talk'. Upcoming drama Here takes it to the nth degree, adapting Richard McGuire's celebrated graphic novel.
McGuire's source examines the passage of time from one fixed position, taking place over thousands of years from primordial evolution to modern-day existence. This ambitious premise is now brought to the screen by effects master Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future; Who Framed Roger Rabbit; Forrest Gump; Cast Away).
Zemeckis reunites with his Forrest Gump creatives (screenwriter Eric Roth; stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright; composer Alan Silvestri) to make the impossible possible.
Saturday Night (screening January 11th)
Saturday Night Live is revered as an American comic institution, one that birthed the careers of comedians and artists alike. From Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray to Lord of the Rings composer Howard Shore (seriously), the live sketch show format helped revolutionise televisual pop culture entertainment.
But have you ever wondered where it all began? Juno and Up in the Air director Jason Reitman takes us back to that fateful night in 1975 when the inaugural episode of Saturday Night (as it was originally known) got off to its memorably chaotic start under the auspices of embattled producer Lorne Michaels (played by The Fabelmans star Gabriel LaBelle).
Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner) portrays Dan Aykroyd, Nicholas Braun (Succession) is Jim Henson and Cory Michael Smith (Gotham) is an unnervingly accurate Chevy Chase in a drama that reveals the pressure behind the spotlight.
