Horror sequel A Quiet Place: Part II has a lot going for it. For one, it's the follow-up to 2018 chiller A Quiet Place, one of the most popular and critically acclaimed movies of its year, with more than $340 million in the bank. It also reunites director John Krasinski and real-life wife Emily Blunt, who brought genuine credibility to the first movie's story of terrifying monsters that hunt via sound.
Of course, given the events of the first film, Krasinski doesn't feature in the sequel as an actor – barring occasional flashbacks that reveal when the creatures first arrived on Earth. But what the movie does have in its favour is the presence of the versatile Cillian Murphy as survivor Emmett – he crosses paths with Evelyn Abbott (Blunt) and her children as they seek to find a new home. And he may be just as dangerous as the beasts they're seeking to avoid.
Murphy is no stranger to post-apocalyptic narratives – in 2002, he burst onto the scene in Danny Boyle's chilling viral epidemic movie 28 Days Later. That opening sequence with Murphy's character Jim wandering around a deserted and devastated London is still brilliantly eerie.
