The story is set in a rural area near Nilambur. A small village in the proximity of a reserve forest. It is there that Appu Pilla's (age 70) ancestral home is located. Appu Pilla is a retired army officer who possesses all the characteristics of a disciplined soldier. He is short-tempered and doesn’t wish to engage in idle chatter with anyone. He used to spend most of his time secluded at home, especially in his well kept bedroom. His wife had passed away long ago. Appupilla had two sons, Ajayan and Prasad. Prasad, the elder son, couldn’t get along with his father's nature and had left for Canada years back. He rarely visited the native village thereafter. Yet he maintained a good relationship with his younger brother, Ajayan
