What movies are showing as part of Christmas Movie Season?

Love Actually (screening November 24th)

When one lovesick Christmas story isn't enough, you opt for half a dozen in the same movie. Richard Curtis' star-stuffed Yuletide rom-com harnesses the best of British from Hugh Grant to Emma Thompson and the late Alan Rickman, resulting in a festive romp that is equal parts sweet and bittersweet.

The Holiday (screening November 28th)

Elf (screening December 1st including IMAX)

Now 20 years old, Jon Favreau's Elf has cemented itself as a contemporary Christmas classic. Will Ferrell brings the broad comedy and the affable likeability in his role as Buddy, a human who has been raised as an elf. When Buddy treks to New York to discover his real father, it sets in motion a hilarious series of events that build toward Christmas night.

Jingle All the Way (screening December 7th and December 8th)

Arnold Schwarzenegger's father desperately needs a Turbo Man toy for his son in this knockabout box office hit. Jingle All the Way further manoeuvered the Terminator star into the realms of pratfalling family comedy and for those parents who remember clawing for the last item on the shelf, it still strikes an amusing chord.

Santa Claus: The Movie (screening December 10th)

Iconic British comedian Dudley Moore plays the plucky elf Patch in this frenetic mixture of festive schmaltz and corporate toy-making satire. When Patch is co-opted by a nefarious businessman (John Lithgow), it falls to Santa (David Huddleston) to fly in and save the day as only he can.

Bad Santa (screening December 15th)

Who's in the mood for an altogether more sour and dyspeptic Christmas movie? Billy Bob Thornton is on top form as the boozy crook turned decrepit department store Santa in writer-director Terry Zwigoff's sharp mixture of gross-out comedy and surprising pathos.

BOOK BAD SANTA TICKETS

Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (screening December 17th and December 22nd)

Christmas isn't complete without Home Alone and we're screening both of the original Macaulay Culkin blockbusters for your viewing pleasure. Revel in the mixture of nostalgic sentiment and priceless slapstick as Culkin's tenacious Kevin McAllister foils bumbling burglars Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) not once but twice.

BOOK HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK TICKETS

Die Hard (screening December 22nd)

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Of course it is: it's set at the imperilled Nakatomi Plaza at Christmas time and it has trend-setting villain Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) invoking the spirit of the season, to give just two reasons. This blast of classic action cinema defines the Christmas season, so revel in it all over again as Bruce Willis' cop John McClane goes to war with the nefarious Gruber and his men.

BOOK DIE HARD TICKETS

The Muppet Christmas Carol (screening December 23rd)

What's better than a Muppet movie? Answer: when they're paired, gloriously, with a poker-faced Michael Caine as Victorian mizer Ebeneezer Scrooge. It's an unlikely combination that works an absolute treat, teasing out the implicit themes of Charles Dickens's masterpiece A Christmas Carol while delighting the family with memorable songs and classic Muppet humour.

It's a Wonderful Life (screening December 24th)

"No man is a failure who has friends." If simply reading that makes one tear up, then it's time to experience Frank Capra and James Stewart's Christmas masterpiece on the big screen again. Journey with Bedford Falls businessman George Bailey (Stewart) as he's palpably, poignantly and magically reminded of the extraordinary value of his apparently ordinary existence.
