Did you embark on the Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt this summer? The good news is we're getting a sequel: Deadline has confirmed news of the Disney follow-up with both Johnson and Blunt set to return. It's also indicated that director Jaume Collet-Serra will be back behind the camera, having charted a course with this year's movie.
Inspired by the longstanding Disney ride, Jungle Cruise sent Johnson's brawny riverboat captain Frank and Blunt's go-getting scientist Lily on a journey into the unknown. On a quest to find the tree of life, which is said to hold miraculous healing properties, they must contend with smarmy German U-boat commanders, undead conquistadores and lots more.
The movie recently crossed the domestic $100 million mark, reports Deadline, which makes the movie a relative success given the pandemic circumstances. (Only Fast and Furious 9, A Quiet Place: Part II, also starring Blunt, Marvel Studios' Black Widow and Godzilla v. Kong have crossed the same boundary.)
Johnson had already hinted at a potential Jungle Cruise sequel, but now it looks like the real deal. Future live-action Disney sequels include a follow-up to Emma Stone vehicle Cruella, which introduced the La La Land Oscar winner as the classic villain in her formative years. It's also been confirmed that The Lion King 2 will pair Kelvin Harrison Jr (Waves; Luce), voicing Simba, with Aaron Pierre (Old), who is set to voice Scar.
