Looking for something to banish those January blues? How about a trip to the Italian Riviera with the Disney-Pixar team? The genius animators have unveiled a new image of their upcoming movie Luca (via Empire Magazine). And although it doesn't give much away, we're already starting to get excited.
Directed by Enrico Casarosa (responsible for Pixar short film La Luna), Luca is described as a coming-of-age tale with a twist. It focuses on young Luca and his best friend Alberto, two sea creatures in human form who have taken to visiting dry land. Here's a shot of the two boys in action.

“This is a deeply personal story for me," says Casarosa, "not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca. So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”
Excitingly, the director has teased the arrival of the first Luca trailer. No doubt it'll tease more of that irresistible mixture of coastline, gelati and rites of passage pathos.

Casarosa tells Empire: "I was born in Genoa, and my summers were spent on beaches. I met my best friend when I was 11. I was really shy and I found this troublemaker of a kid who had a completely different life. I wanted to make a movie about those kinds of friendships that help you grow up."
It sounds like we need to brace our tear ducts for another emotional rollercoaster from the Disney-Pixar team. Luca is scheduled for release (at the time of writing) on 18th June. Tweet us @Cineworld if you can't wait to see it.
