Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is on its way next year, and we've got a suitably apocalyptic new poster to match.
The Dark Knight, Inception and Tenet helmer returns with an account of the atomic bomb's creation. Regular Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy portrays the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer who, upon revealing his chillingly destructive creation, quoted Hindu scripture: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."
Check out the poster below and get a sense of how a new form of 20th-century warfare was born in flames.
Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan's first fact-based drama (not to mention his first with distributor Universal), and marks a return to relatively more sober territory after the inverted timeline hijinks of Tenet. And a cast has turned out to match.
Joining Murphy: Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Benny Safdie, Dane DeHaan and Josh Hartnett. Oh, and a certain Robert Downey Jr. also makes an appearance.
The ensemble is suitably incendiary and Nolan's penchant for verisimilitude should hopefully invest this cautionary tale with chilling topicality. As with all Nolan's films, it also promises to be a visual feast: the movie is the latest of Nolan's epics to be shot with IMAX cameras, lensed, as before, by his regular collaborator Hoyte van Hoytema (who has also shot the upcoming Nope in IMAX).
It's safe to say this is on our 'most anticipated of next year' list. Oppenheimer arrives one year from today on July 21st 2023, so let us know @Cineworld if there's already a seat with your name on it.
