If you missed the first film – or saw it but can’t remember what happened – don’t worry as we’ve compiled all the most important information so that you’re well prepared when you take your seats for this gripping new blockbuster…
Ben Affleck plays a mathematical genius…
The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a man living with Asperger’s syndrome who utilises his mathematical brilliance to work as a forensic accountant and money launderer for various criminal organisations. When a tech firm called Living Robotics hires Wolff to investigate accounting irregularities, he quickly discovers that millions of dollars have been embezzled from the company’s funds. As Wolff and his assistant, Dana (Anna Kendrick), get closer to nailing the culprit, they find themselves being targeted by hitmen.
…who’s also a trained fighter
When Wolff was a child, his psy-ops father taught him a range of combat skills in order to toughen him up and help him cope in a world that wouldn’t understand his condition. By the time we meet him as an adult in The Accountant, Wolff is a highly capable fighter – something that becomes very apparent when the aforementioned hitmen are sent to kill him for uncovering the Living Robotics theft. With ruthless efficiency, he dispatches his would-be assassins – except for one.
His brother is equally lethal
Wolff wasn’t alone in being trained by his father – his younger brother Brax (Jon Bernthal) was, too. And as Wolff gets closer to identifying those responsible for the Living Robotics embezzlement, he’s shocked to find that Brax is working for them as a hitman. In one of the film’s most exciting scenes, the brothers engage in a fight before eventually settling their differences. And in The Accountant 2, Wolff and Brax team up to help someone in need (see below).
Wolff himself is being investigated
While Wolff is trying to unravel the Living Robotics mystery, he himself is being tailed by a young treasury agent named Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). For years, Medina’s boss Ray King (J. K. Simmons) has been receiving tip-offs from a shadowy figure known as ‘The Accountant’ – i.e. Wolff – and as he nears retirement, he wants her to continue the relationship. Medina is initially reluctant to do so, but as she develops a better understanding of the man she’s investigating, she agrees to collaborate with him. In The Accountant 2, someone close to Medina is killed by assassins, which prompts her to seek the help of Wolff and Brax.
These films are packed with action
If you thought the first film was gripping, wait till you see The Accountant 2! After Wolff and Brax are recruited by Medina, they find themselves being targeted by a group of ruthless killers – forcing them to draw upon their own deadly skills in a bid to survive. Cue a series of exciting action sequences, from car chases to gunfights, not to mention some pretty cool hand-to-hand combat. Whether or not you’ve seen the first movie, we guarantee you’ll love this one!
