Karan was the son of the Ajmera family. His family had been leading industrialists based in London for generations. Karan was in love with Aisha Barclay. Aisha was the only child of Dr William and Anu Barclay. Her mother was from India and her father was a prominent surgeon at the Royal London Hospital. Karan and Aisha had met and fallen in love and had been dating for 3 years. Karan wanted to whisk Aisha away for a romantic weekend and propose to her. When they were planning the weekend getaway, Aisha came across pictures of the Ajmera Summer house, which was a few hours away from London. She insisted on going to the house where Karan had spent most of his summers growing up. Karan was reluctant as he had not been back to that house for over 8 years, it held memories that seemed to haunt him. But on Aisha's insistence, they found themselves heading to the Summer House. Karan had been suffering from memory lapses and blackouts for which he had been in therapy with Dr Shivani Roy. Dr Shivani also felt that this trip would do Karan good. It was taking a step in the direction of overcoming his past demons. But the demons from his past had been waiting for just this opportunity.
