- July 25th, 2025: The Fantastic Four: First Steps
1. Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson graduates from the role of The Falcon to The Star-Spangled Man in Captain America: Brave New World, the latest instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In the wake of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's explosive events, we get the penultimate chapter in Phase Five of the MCU, as Sam prepares to confront a rogue element within the US government. So far, it sounds reminiscent of the acclaimed Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and that's a good thing for people who want more espionage and character-led intrigue from their Marvel movies.
The corruption appears to be stemming from President Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (Harrison Ford taking over from the late William Hurt) who, according to the trailer, undergoes a full-blown rage transformation into the rampaging Red Hulk.
2. Thunderbolts*
In the conclusive installment, of Marvel Phase Five, the MCU presents its variation on DC's Suicide Squad formula: a scrappy, irreverent collective of misfits known as the Thunderbolts who are akin to a quirkier take on the Avengers. That's a whole lot of quirky, and they're led by Florence Pugh's tenacious spy Yelena Belova whom we last saw in the 2021 origin story Black Widow.
Also returning from Black Widow: David Harbour's enjoyably gruff Soviet man-mountain Red Guardian, who keeps the quips flying and the vodka flowing, and Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster. Other familiar faces include a trio of characters whom we last saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Wyatt Russell's John Walker.
3. Superman
You'll believe a man can fly all over again in James Gunn's superhero epic Superman, the first instalment in the freshly rebooted DC Universe. Gunn has swapped Marvel and his hit Guardians of the Galaxy movies for a planet-spanning origin story in which rising star David Corenswet plays Krypton's most famous son, the humanoid icon who teaches the denizens of Earth a few lessons in humility, sacrifice and courage.
Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, the love interest of Supes' bumbling alter-ego Clark Kent, and Nicholas Hoult dials up the villainy to portray the Man of Steel's nemesis, Lex Luthor. Expect plenty of cameos from plenty of DC fan-favourites including Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi ), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), plus Kal-El's loyal childhood mutt Krypto the super-dog.
4. The Fantastic Four: First Steps
We've been waiting decades for the Fantastic Four to be incorporated into the MCU fold – the three previous attempts, all made under the auspices of the now-defunct 20th Century Fox, didn't exactly hit the mark. It's hardly the way to treat Marvel's OG superhero family, is it?
Well, our patience is about to pay off with the reveal of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
WandaVision's chief creative Matt Shakman is behind the camera and the sure-to-be-rousing score will come from blockbuster veteran Michael Giacchino (Jurassic World; Lightyear; Thor). What could be better?
