All the October movie releases you need to watch at Cineworld

Summer's over but the epic movies keep on rolling. With October nearly here, spooky season is on the way, plus a host of must-see comic book blockbusters and family-friendly treats.

Even better, several of this month's biggest releases are playing in special format IMAX, plus Cineworld-exclusive formats 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen. Here's what you can expect to see.

Joker: Folie a Deux (released October 4th in 2D, 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen)

In 2019, the controversial Joker movie stormed the box office as it reimagined the Clown Prince of Crime's origins through Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. The film won an Oscar for Joaquin Phoenix's intense and mercurial portrayal of damaged clown turned super-villain Arthur Fleck, culminating in his incarceration at Arkham Asylum.

That's where we pick up with Joker: Folie a Deux (a madness shared by two), directed, as before, by Todd Phillips. The Joker sequel sows the seeds of Joker's twisted, symbiotic relationship with psychotherapist-turned-lover Harley Quinn, played here by Lady Gaga. The latter's presence is set to transfigure the new Joker movie into a singular and memorable musical, the likes of which we likely haven't seen before. As Gene Kelly and Judy Garland opined: 'Be a Clown.'

Transformers One (released October 9th in 2D and 4DX)

Discover how a young Optimus Prime and Megatron first met in this animated Transformers origin story from Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley. Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne make up the starry voice cast.

Smile 2 (released October 18th in 4DX and Superscreen)

Released in 2022, horror-chiller Smile proved to be a surprise sleeper hit. Written and directed by Parker Finn, it wove the tale of a hideous curse that manifests in the form of a demonic rictus grin.

It was a simple yet bone-chilling idea that worked like a charm at the box office. Finn is now helming the sequel, which stars Aladdin actor Naomi Scott as a high-flying Taylor Swift-esque pop star who comes face to face with the horrific smile curse.

The Wild Robot (released October 18th)

Lilo & Stitch director Chris Sanders fashions a gorgeous-looking ode to compassion and the wonders of nature in this feature-length CG adventure, based on Peter Brown's book series of the same name. The movie has been acclaimed by critics and promises to wow audiences upon its release this October.

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o voices the titular robot Rozzum 'Roz' 7134 who washes ashore on a seemingly deserted island. There she becomes the unexpected protector of an orphaned gosling, which she names Brightbill (voiced by Kit Connor).

Venom: The Last Dance (released October 25th)

We're finally getting the sequel to 2021's Venom sequel Let There Be Carnage. The previous film's director Andy Serkis is out, replaced by Saving Mr Banks screenwriter Kelly Marcel who both helms and takes on scripting duties. Tom Hardy's bifurcated Eddie Brock will no doubt still struggle to balance his paltry journalistic career with the invasive, growling and mischievous Venom symbiote that has now permanently taken root in his body.

The strong supporting cast includes Michelle Williams, returning from the previous movies and now established as She-Venom, Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
